Lake Como, Italy - My View Of The Lake
Lake Como, one of Italy's most beautiful destinations, is only a short bus journey away, 25 miles north of Milan. Small, picturesque villages and magnificent homes dating back a century dot its shoreline, each one grander and more ornate than the last. The sparkling water invites you to relax and take in the beauty of the lake and its surroundings. Lake Como, the third-biggest lake in Italy, was a peaceful and enchanted place for me. It's easy to understand why it's considered one of Italy's most romantic destinations; the area has beautiful Mediterranean gardens and breathtaking scenery.
My family and I were relieved to finally check into the hotel where we had booked a room after our long journey. Our group decided on the Hotel Bellevue. Built in 1820, it borders the majestic Villa Carlotta. We were relieved to find that the hotel was so close to Lake Como when we arrived. Beautiful hotel with excellent service. Gardens, vintage antiques, and a pool in the backyard added to its beautiful ambiance. The foyer was grand, complete with a grand, sweeping staircase and a massive Venetian chandelier. There was art on every wall. The apartments were beautiful, furnished with period pieces, and outfitted with luxurious Italian linens.
We checked into our rooms, dropped down our bags, and then headed out to see the area. As soon as we stepped outside, we saw a quaint restaurant by the name of "The Victorian Tea Garden," which was conveniently located on the shores of Lake Como. A beautiful outdoor table set with white linen welcomed us. A pergola draped with grapevines caught our eye. The Swiss Alps, however, were the show-stopping feature of the panorama. The deep, marine-blue waters of Lake Como were set off beautifully by the surrounding majesty of the Alps. The experience made us feel like we'd gone back in time. The owner, a guy who appeared in his 80s, was exceedingly cordial and could not have made us feel more welcome. To celebrate the occasion, we all ordered champagne and raised our glasses to toast one another and the breathtaking ambiance. We sat there for two hours, drinking two bottles of champagne and taking in the breathtaking view.
As the sun began to fall, we made our way back to the Hotel Bellevue for a memorable meal. The night culminated with a ferry ride to Bellagio, Italy's most renowned and beautiful vacation town. Old, historic buildings such as stores, restaurants, and churches dotted the narrow, cobblestone lanes. Listen to my suggestion. Bellagio is home to some of Italy's finest leather products and silk scarves and ties, so don't leave town without perusing the boutiques.
Bellagio was almost empty. Because of this, strolling about and soaking in the scenery was a breeze. There has been no modern development in Bellagio, so it still has the beauty and charm of "old world living." The people of Bellagio clearly took pride in their well-kept gardens.
Lake Como is so expansive because it provides an endless supply of activities for visitors. You and your loved ones will have a wonderful time here. Those in search of peace and quiet will find it in the lake's natural setting. You may go swimming, waterskiing, sailing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding all around Lake Como, making it an ideal destination for an active holiday. Day visits to the mountains are also an excellent option. The scenery around the lake and on these outings is really stunning.
Lake Como boat trips are a necessity. You may visit the beautiful lakeside villages (I suggest the charming town of Varenna) and see the local landmarks and homes by taking a ferry. Or, you may even pick a ferry journey to neighbouring Switzerland. Great shopping may be found in Lugano, Switzerland, but be prepared to use your credit card.
I highly suggest a trip to the famous Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo if you have any interest in magnificent artworks, traditional Italian gardens, or sophisticated historical settings. It has beautiful planted grounds, and fans of antiques should definitely check out the home. The Duomo (or "Renaissance Cathedral") is another spectacular landmark. It's right in the heart of Como, Italy.
You may go on a culinary excursion or go shopping for a bargain in any of the lakeside towns. In the many restaurants and cafés that line the lake, you may sample local specialties like olive oil, wine, and cheese.
Relax with a glass of wine at one of the area's wine bars in the evening before heading out to dinner at one of the region's many excellent restaurants. The majority of eateries provide either contemporary or regional cuisine. After supper, go out to one of the many local discos; you can dance the night away until daylight. Or you might do what my family and I like to do and go for a stroll by the lake before settling up with a nice book.
The beauty of Lake Como is unparalleled. It boasts stunning vistas, lush, calm landscapes, great Italian architecture, exquisite, by-gone charm, and friendly, inviting people. Visitors to Lake Como may enjoy a tranquil, elegant, and stunningly beautiful slice of life that has remained mostly unchanged throughout the years. You will feel compelled to return to this location often. Maybe you'll find yourself daydreaming about the beaches of Lake Como on a bright day in your own garden.
